David Hegarty is currently in his 34th year as senior staff organist of San Franciscoଡndmark movie palace襠Castro Theatre. He also plays pre-film concerts at the Stanford Theatre, Palo Alto, and is a monthly recitalist at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, where he presents pops concerts on the museumӫinner symphonic organ. An avid film music researcher, he specializes in carefully crafted transcriptions of great film music from Hollywoodǯlden Age and beyond.
David received his education as an Organ Performance major at Loma Linda University (BA), Andrews University (MMus), and continued with doctoral studies at the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati.
He is a prolific composer/arranger/editor, having served on the staff of Lorenz Publishing Company, during which time he was editor of The Sacred Organ Journal. He is also published with Hal Leonard Publications, Sheet Music Magazine, and Broadman Press.
As a concert artist, David has appeared in such diverse venues as Washington DC˥nnedy Center, San Franciscoǲace Cathedral, the Crystal Cathedral, with the Oakland Pops Orchestra, and with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall.
This is his fifth concert here on the Harrah organ. He has recorded two CDs on this magnificent instrument.
The emphasis for this concert is Symphonic Pops, and David will utilize the vast resources of the instrument to showcase its versatility㠡 virtual orchestra, a theatre organ, and, of course, a monumental classical concert organ.
Repertoire will include music from the movies: Max Steiner༩>Now, Voyager and King Kong; Alfred Newman༩>The Prisoner of Zenda; John Williams༩>Star Wars; as well as music from such contemporary films as The KingӰeech and The Artist. Also represented will be symphonic favorites by David Rose, Leroy Anderson, Albert Ketelbey, and Angela Morley.
Sharing the program will be Davidഡlented 16-year-old student Nahri Ahn of Livermore, California, who is already making a name for herself as a recitalist with the American Guild of Organists. She will be playing some of Davidലanscriptions of orchestral music.
