HURRICANE - The term "silent film" might have been a bit of a misnomer. While it's true the actors in silent films could not be heard and thus had to communicate through gestures, the theaters were anything but silent, as live music accompanying the film was an important part of the experience.

Now you can go back in time and experience it yourself, thanks to the next PipeSounds concert on the Harrah Symphonic Organ at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church in Hurricane.

R. Jelani Eddington, one of the most prominent and sought-after artists on the pipe organ concert circuit, will present the music for the silent movie "Hot Water," starring Harold Lloyd, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at Forrest Burdette.

Jelani has performed in most of the major concert venues throughout the United

States, has toured extensively abroad, and has received numerous awards and recognitions.

"Hot Water" is a 1924 silent film featuring three episodes in the life of Hubby (Lloyd) as he struggles with domestic life with Wifey (Jobyna Ralston) and his in-laws. The film was popular at the box office and grossed $1,350,000, an excellent return for a film of this period, according to a news release from PipeSounds.

Harold Lloyd ranks alongside Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton as one of the most popular and influential film comedians of the silent film era. Lloyd made nearly 200 comedy films, both silent and "talkies," between 1914 and 1947.

Eddington will be returning for his second performance on the world-class Harrah Symphonic Organ.

Admission is $10 for adults, students and children free. Forrest Burdette is located at 2848 Putnam Ave. Directions to the church are available on the web, www.forrestburdette.com or call the church office, 304-562-5903.
