HURRICANE - Cap off your Thanksgiving weekend by catching some Christmas spirit on Sunday, Nov. 26, when Rodney L. Barbour performs "Good Tidings - Great Joy," a Christmas concert, on the world-class Harrah Symphonic Organ at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Ave., in Hurricane.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. and admission is free, although donations are always appreciated. A reception will follow the performance.

Barbour is an exceptional entertainer and he lures the audience into participation with great stories, traditional and seasonal music, according to a news release from the church.

Barbour is a native of Huntington, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Arlane L. Barbour. His early keyboard studies were with noted Huntington musicians including Trilby Lynch, Lois Skeans and Dr. Robert D. Wolff. He was also active as a trombonist playing in various bands, orchestras of Vinson and Marshall and community events such as Holiday on Ice and the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus Band.

After graduating from Vinson High School and Marshall University, Barbour moved to Cincinnati, where he established his career as a church musician, concert organist, educator and entertainer. He has played organ concerts in 43 states, all provinces of Canada, Puerto Rico, Italy and England. For 11 years, he was the organist for the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium, and for 10 years he played the Mighty Wurlitzer organ at Cincinnati's Springdale Music Palace.

Barbour also has several published works, including organ music books and CDs.

This will be his 10th performance in Hurricane, by popular demand from audiences.

This PipeSounds concert is offered for free as a "Thank you" to patrons and community for their support this season and through the years.

Directions to the church are on the web site, www.forrestburdette.com, or call the church office at 304-562-5903.
